In September 2007, a research team based at REGUA found a new species of lizard for Rio State in a small patch of lowland forest partly owned by REGUA, just outside the core reserve.

The Slender Anole Anolis fuscoauratus is a common species in the Amazon basin but poorly known in the Atlantic Forest (see photo). This record represents a large range extension for this species.
