On 6 October 2011, Michael Patrikeev found an unusual elaenia nesting in a sapling at the REGUA wetland. Elaenias are difficult to identify, however, careful field observations and analysis of photos identified the species as Small-billed Elaenia Elaenia Parvirostris. This record not only constitutes the first breeding record for REGUA, but also for Rio de Janeiro state.
